Internals and externals

NCEA rewards two very different skills: steady internal assessment through the year, and performing under pressure in the end-of-year externals. We prepare for both — staying on top of internals as they come, then drilling past exam papers and technique for the externals.

Merit & Excellence endorsements

The gap between Achieved and Excellence is usually about depth of understanding and how well an answer is communicated — not raw ability. We focus on exactly the reasoning and working that earn the higher grades.

Scholarship Calculus

For students aiming higher than the standard course, NZ Scholarship is a genuine step up in difficulty. We work on the harder, less familiar problem-solving it demands — the kind that isn't in the textbook.

I received my Masters Degree in Maths (First Class Honors) from the University of Auckland in 2014. With nearly 15 years of teaching experience, I have taught at many different schools across Auckland including Kristin School. I specialize in delivering highly effective online education and received the Ernest Duncan Award in 2018 for my contributions to the field. More than anything, I focus on building strong mathematical foundations for long-term growth — planning each student's learning with the end in mind. I strengthen the fundamentals first, then tailor their path toward whatever they choose next, whether that's NCEA, Cambridge, IB, or beyond. NCEA maths tutoring — your questions

All of them — NCEA Levels 1, 2 and 3, plus NZ Scholarship Calculus. At Level 2 and 3 that covers both the Calculus and the Statistics pathways.

Yes. From Level 2 onwards maths splits into Calculus and Statistics, and I tutor both — whether your child is taking one, the other, or both.

That's one of the most common goals. The jump to Merit and Excellence is usually about depth of understanding and how clearly an answer is set out, rather than ability. We target exactly the reasoning and communication that earn the higher grades.

Both. We stay on top of internal assessments through the year as they come up, and build exam technique with past papers for the externals. The mix depends on where your child needs the most support.

Yes. Scholarship is a real step up — harder, less familiar problem-solving than the standard course. We work on exactly that kind of thinking, which is where a lot of my students have gone on to gain Scholarship.

For almost all students, yes — and often better. We're on live video and both write on a shared interactive whiteboard in real time, so I can work a problem while your child solves alongside me, correcting their working as we go. Every board is saved as revision notes, there's no travel, and scheduling is easier.

Any point works, but earlier is easier. Starting at Level 1 builds a strong base that makes Levels 2 and 3 far smoother; starting later, we focus on shoring up gaps and sharpening exam technique. Even a few focused lessons before externals make a real difference.

One-on-one tuition is $89 per lesson (currently $83 per lesson with the Term 3 Special), and small-group classes are $42 per lesson ($39 per lesson with the special).
