Where is your child up to?
From the Level 1 foundations through to Level 3 and Scholarship — every lesson is built around the standards and exams your child is actually sitting.
The foundation year. We lock in number, algebra and statistics, and get your child comfortable with how internals and externals actually work.
Best for: A strong, confident base for Level 2
The year maths forks into Calculus and Statistics. The algebra and calculus foundations built here largely decide how Level 3 goes.
Best for: Keeping options open for Level 3 Calculus or Statistics
The one that counts for university. Calculus (differentiation, integration, complex numbers) and Statistics — plus Scholarship for the top end.
Best for: University entry in science, engineering, commerce & more
Not just passing — endorsing
Getting the credits is one thing. These are the parts of NCEA where focused help lifts a result from Achieved to Merit, Excellence and beyond.
Internals and externals
NCEA rewards two very different skills: steady internal assessment through the year, and performing under pressure in the end-of-year externals. We prepare for both — staying on top of internals as they come, then drilling past exam papers and technique for the externals.
Merit & Excellence endorsements
The gap between Achieved and Excellence is usually about depth of understanding and how well an answer is communicated — not raw ability. We focus on exactly the reasoning and working that earn the higher grades.
Scholarship Calculus
For students aiming higher than the standard course, NZ Scholarship is a genuine step up in difficulty. We work on the harder, less familiar problem-solving it demands — the kind that isn't in the textbook.
How it works
Simple, low-pressure, and built around your child.
Check you're set up
Lessons need a laptop, a tablet and stylus, and a reliable internet connection — so your child can handwrite maths naturally, right alongside me.
Get in touch
Tell me about your child through the Get Started form. Your first lesson is risk-free — if it's not the right fit, there's no charge.
A plan, then weekly lessons
I find their current level and set a plan, then we meet weekly online on an interactive whiteboard — with homework each lesson to lock it in.
Ongoing progress
Lessons run weekly through the term. You stay in the loop on how they're tracking, and we adapt as their confidence grows.

Kenneth Clarkson
My goal isn't just to get your child through the next test — it's to build strong foundations that set them up for the long term. I teach for understanding over memorising, keep lessons calm and encouraging, and tailor each student's path toward wherever they're heading, whether that's NCEA, Cambridge, IB, or beyond.
Sarah J.
I love helping students build genuine confidence with maths — breaking big ideas into clear, manageable steps until they click. I keep lessons supportive, patient, and focused on real understanding.
What families say
“We really appreciate the positive impact Kenneth has had on our son. Michael often tells us how much he enjoys Kenneth's lessons, and they've made a real difference to his confidence and understanding in maths. Thank you, Kenneth, for being such a wonderful teacher.”
